lllln-8-Hydroxyquinoline Platelet Labeling in Dogs1

This report validates a technique of separating and labeling canine platelets using indium-1 1 llabeled 8-hydroxyquinoline (Yn-8-HQ). Platelet survival time in six normal dogs was 6.3 ? 0.7 (SD) days. Labeling effisiency using this technique was 51.8 + 9.2% (SEM) and elution loss of 11LIn-8-HQ label from platelets was consistently less than 4%. Vn label offers no observable advantages over the more traditional Wr label for platelet survival studies. However, the high efficiency labeling and --y-emission characteristics of “‘In-8-HQ make it more suitable for noninvasive clot localization in patients with early pulmonary emboli and peripheral venous thrombi.
